He forms a partnership with fellow Spaniard Francisco Guerrero, a pairing that reunited on the professional tour in 2025.

Nicknamed "Javi Letal", a play on his surname, Leal first teamed up with Guerrero as a junior, winning a Spanish national title together around 2012, years before either turned professional. Playing the backhand side, Leal built his early career through the domestic and Challenger circuits before reuniting with his childhood partner in 2025.

Since then, Guerrero/Leal have won finals against García/Pineda and Bergamini/Garrido, reached the 2026 Pretoria P2 final, and taken on the world's top-ranked pair, Coello/Tapia, five times on tour.
