Mariano González San Martín, born in 2007 in Encarnación, Paraguay, became the first Paraguayan player to break into the FIP world top 100, a milestone for a country with little padel tradition at the professional level. He began the 2026 season partnering Facundo López before joining forces with Spain's Curro Cabeza, a pairing that wasted little time making an impression: seeded fifth in their debut together, they reached the semifinals of the FIP Gold in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The pair followed that with a run to the FIP Bronze final in Marrakech, beating Alami Mohamed and Fede Mouriño along the way before defeating Emilio Sánchez and Alberto García for the title, their first together, and the result that pushed González to a career-high ranking.
