Javier Valdes Gonzalez

Javier Valdes Gonzalez is a professional padel player from Chile, aged 30, standing 1.75 metres tall. Born on 27 June 1996 in Chile, he plays on the drive side and is currently ranked 95. He partners Miguel Benitez Lara.

Born in Santiago, Javier Valdés grew up inside padel: his father was a player and businessman who backed the sport in Chile. He was a junior tennis player until 13 or 14, then switched to padel, competing in Chile’s top category as a teenager alongside Carlos Zarhi, then the country’s No. 1. He moved to Spain to turn professional in 2017.

Chilean media regard him as the best padel player in his country’s history. He has reached a career-high world ranking of No. 46 and calls his three-set win over Fernando Belasteguín, when the Argentine was among the world’s top six, the most important of his career. His partners over the years include José Sánchez and Agustín Gutiérrez, whose spell around 2019 he describes as his most successful.
